I thought I'd add this as I found a direct problem/fix for this error...well at least one possible fix depending on the actual problem.

For the following please try turning the "Extention Limit" off, then if you wish to try the following drivers you may, but no guarantees are made as to the reliability of the drivers, use at your own risk. Anywho, I ended up downloading the latest Omega drivers for Nvidia. I had almost the latest drivers, but I kept getting the error

Cound not find a compatible device!
Make sure your display device supports OpenGL 1.2 and the following extentions:
ARB_multitexture
ARB_texture_env_combine
...
...
yada yada yada

Anywho, I used the Omega drivers and it functioned. Yay for me! I played through the game and had a ball.

Well, today, I tried to start the game and it came up with the OpenGL error again. Big ??? came up. Well, I started fiddling with the nvidia graphics settings. I got the game to start working again. Ok, so it's just a stupid setting doing this. I ran through the 3D settings and found the one that was causing all the problems (at least for me).

Extention Limit: On ===> Error message
Extention Limit: Off ===> Working game

Interesting isn't it?

Anywho, check to see what yours is set at and switch it off if it was on. Try and see if that fixed your problem. It may or may not depending on if there are other issues, but I thought this would be helpful to some folks having trouble. I figure the Omega drivers simply had this off by default and is why they magically worked.

I will note that I have not tried it on other driver versions to see if it was only the Extension Limit setting. It's not something I plan to do at the moment, but I may toss on a couple other driver versions and see what happens later.

I thought I'd update some information.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop using Nvidia's GeForce Go 6800 graphics card. The laptop is a few years old, but the graphics card supports OpenGL 2.0, as should most everything on the market. You'd pretty much have to have a 10 year old system not to have a card with OpenGL 1.2 support.

I'm running Windows XP as my operating system

The graphics card drivers are Omega's Nvidia desktop drivers, but I slightly modified the INF and added in my card so it would recognize my Go 6800 and install. This is based off the 169.21 Forceware drivers. Omega plans to have a laptop version eventually, but it might be a while. I ran a couple other driver versions with this game, and all failed. The Omega ones were the only ones that initially worked. The later fail is what pointed me to the possible setting conflict.

For the ATI users, I'm not sure what you have. You may have an Extention Limit setting or the same thing but under a different name. Heck, for Nvidia or ATI users, it may be from completely different graphics settings. The Extention Limit is the only setting that I've found that would directly cause the error. Changing any other setting does nothing, and the game starts. I can only advise to simply run through all the settngs one by one and see if one caused the error. Since OpenGL 1.2 has long been supported, a setting conflict becomes a rather obvious cause. I just can't tell you why the Extension Limit even matters. It just somehow does, and maybe another setting or two may as well. Just give it a whirl. You may find your fix. For the Linux and Mac users, best of luck as well.

^That was me, of course. Sorry, I didn't know I could even post anonymously like that.

I wanted to add that you should not get fixated on a specific driver version. I mean don't go out and run 169.21 just because that's what I run. You should be able to fully run a 3 year old set of drivers, just have the correct settings, and the game should run. It's just not something I've fiddled with yet. I have a few older versions of drivers as well as the very old Dell specific drivers I could toss on and run the game. As well, I have an old desktop with an old ATI 9800 Pro where I could play with ATI drivers and settings a little too. I may do that in the future and list my results.

For graphics support, we've been working hard to get it working wherever possible. You can view the technical requirements on the Games page, the link is on the right side of the page.

If you haven't already, please submit your technical issue to support@playgreenhouse.com, along with your system specs. Hopefully they can help you out.

Thanks!

I bought this game a while back and installed and ran with no problems. However, recently I had to pave and nuke the system and updated to all the most recent drivers off the NVidia website so that WoW would work after their latest patch and the graphics engine update.

Now, I was prepping to reinstall and replay OTRSPOD:EP1 and -- well, I get the following:

'Could Not Find a Compatible Display Device!
Please make sure your display device supports OpenGL 1.2 and the following extensions:...

ARB and EXT's listed.

And then suggested reviewing the console log.

...how the hell do I fix this?
